Paintings and portraits

My pieces mainly feature animals I have experience with from my zookeeping days, with some experimental exceptions, through water-based media and colored pencil. I offer commissions on a case-by-case basis- if there is an animal that is dear to you, with a personality that shines through with a silly expression, please reach out!

The American Bittern, subject of many sketchbook doodles, has some of the most unique poses when it comes to camouflage :)	A dear friend on the day of his retirement.	A memorial for a fellow keeper, after the passing of a beautiful and chaotic bird.
A commissioned portrait of a giraffe I had worked with, who had a knack for eating things he shouldn't!	The Panamanian Golden Frog, extinct in the wild, bred in captivity in the hopes for release when the world is less hostile towards it.	A short experiment in colored pencil. The tuarara is not a lizard, but instead the last descendant of a lineage of something else entirely.
Coral reefs are a constant battle ground, every organism fighting for space and resources. I always imagined the Wild West as a comparison.	Two individuals, who would keep their distance in the wild. As roommates in a captive setting, they eventually learned the company isn't so bad.	A very special pool, discovered on a marsh island. Truly belonging to the gators, birds, and everything in between.
The Olympic Torrent Salamander, just something I thought deserved a moment in the spotlight.	The only cockroach-centered work to make it to fruition (so far). They deserve more kindness than they are dealt.	A study of a beautiful Eastern Mountain Bongo I had the honor of tending to.
	What marvelous creatures!	A Hawaiian pueo owl, truly emulating the feeling I get when someone touches my stuff. Colored with acorn ink I harvested and processed by hand, in a practice of start-to-finish production.
